With a wide variety of technical knowledge, and experience, the Standards Engineer provides technical support to divisions within Engineering for development of design policy, design guidance, and Standard Drawings. In addition, you will be responsible for offering the necessary implementation guidance on roadway and bridge design to designers and consultants. Moreover, clarification of construction details is offered to contractors A Day in the Life:Provides technical support to divisions within Engineering for development of design policy, design guidance, and Standard DrawingsProvides technical support for review of complex designs (bridge or road by specialty area)Provides technical expertise for review and recommendation of project-specific Standard Drawing modifications.Serves as a resource to divisions within and outside Engineering on background and supporting documentation for bridge and road design policy and associated standards.Keeps abreast of current design practices by attending conferences and reading trade publications, research papers, etc.Represents Division or serves as proxy for other divisions within Engineering for various INDOT committees.Works with content owners to incorporate revisionsCoordinates with FHWA each year for approval.Provides project-specific standard drawing modificationsIDM interpretationsInputs and assists on review of design build road design technical provisions and milestone submittals What You’ll Need for Success:Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program;Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana;Must have valid Indiana driver’s license.Strong knowledge of State and Federal rules, regulations and procedures governing bridge evaluation and design;Extensive knowledge of the design principles and practices applicable to highway structures;High level ability to read, interpret and analyze civil engineering plans, structural details, maps and specifications;High level ability to present and communicate technical information both verbally and in writing;Ability to effectively communicate and work in a cooperative manner with INDOT employees, Federal Highway Administration, consultants, the public and outside agencies;Ability to comprehend and interpret variety of civil engineering principles, techniques, procedures, criteria, plans and specifications and related data;Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid engineering/technical conclusions and use statistical analysis;Ability to cooperate with coworkers on group projects and establish a friendly atmosphere with coworkers;Ability to handle routine and sensitive contacts with governmental officials, consulting firms, contractors, and the general public;Possession of basic computer skills and the ability to become proficient in new programs and databases.Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft programs Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
