Reports to: Director of the AISC Steel Solutions Center
This individual will serve as the first point of contact for inquiries into the AISC Steel Solutions Center. This will include managing and distributing both phone and email technical inquiries. This person will be trained over time to provide technical assistance and assist Structural Steel Specialists with the development of conceptual solutions. In addition, this individual will participate in general marketing and technical activities, including project assignments with the goal of making structural steel easier to design and specify.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Provide the live voice of the Steel Solutions Center-responsive, pleasant, knowledgeable, able to defuse adversarial callers.
Disseminate phone and email inquiries to appropriate staff and consultants and ensure timely responses.
Establish and execute a system for phone and/or email surveys of clients that use the SSC and report these results on a quarterly basis.
Maintain Solutions Center inquiry statistics— generating reports on phone and email inquiries..
Make follow-up calls to people who will have a delay in receiving their SSC response.
Provide correct, prompt answers to technical inquiries via email, phone or web-based, as appropriate (and review, as appropriate). The level of the technical inquiry that is assigned to be answered and reviewed will be dictated by the Director of the AISC Steel Solutions Center.
Conceptual solutions
Assist in the qualification, development, and review of building conceptual solutions with both internal staff and external clients
Provide innovative and economical building conceptual solutions
Make use of and assist in the ongoing development of resources based on topics identified by the Director of the AISC Steel Solutions Center.
Assist with the continual flow of technical information to the AISC web site, Modern Steel Construction (including Steel Quiz, Steel Interchange and Steel Wise), etc.
Monitor SteelTools.org on a daily basis to monitor content and website activity.
Travel for NASCC, COS and COM meetings as required. Additional travel as required and directed by the Director of the AISC Steel Solutions Center.
Serve as a secretary for AISC committees as assigned.
Other duties and responsibilities:
Coordinating target mailers and social media campaigns for Solutions Center.
Present SteelTalks as appropriate.
Participate as a member of the Engineering Journal Review Board
Carry out special projects as assigned by the Director of the AISC Steel Solutions Center
Qualification requirements:
Basic knowledge of steel building design and construction.
Must be able to understand and grow in the use of technical terminology related to structural engineering.
Familiarity with AISC and its activities, particularly within E&R.
Good level of organizational skills.
Position requires creativity and drive.
Must be United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States.
Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree with structural emphasis in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent; MS preferred.
3 years’ experience in steel building design and/or construction related activities.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.
Proficient computer skills, including: common steel design software including RAM Steel and REVIT, Google Docs and Microsoft Office suite programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
