Job Description : | Main Objective: Plans, supports, and implements total quality programs. Designs, specifies, and installs quality control sampling systems, testing mechanisms, and equipment. Formulates and/or assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures and development of quality standards. Should be someone who enjoys solving problems using a combination of data as well as direct feedback from operators and their observations on the floor (i.e. product and process). This is not a desk job and this is not a floor job – it’s both. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads, and directs technical work and departmental efforts related to quality engineering activities for new and existing programs. Formulates and/or assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures and development of quality standards. Serves as a liaison and coordinates activity of internal and external sources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered and prevent potential quality problems. Assists internal and external contacts to resolve product and process problems. Investigates and solves problems in assigned areas using formal problem-solving tools. Analyzes and develops supplier’s products to obtain maximum productivity and reviews performance in operation and provides suggestions for improvement. Champions continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, implements, and administers new and/or existing quality assurance processes. Engages in comparative and competitive analysis to ensure utilization of most appropriate and beneficial techniques in each situation. Demonstrates EHS leadership by setting a good example. Instructs employees on what PPE is needed and how to properly use, store, and maintain that equipment. Enforces safe work practices and procedures and encourages workers to identify unsafe or unhealthy workplace conditions or hazards without fear of discipline. Ensures employees report accidents and injuries immediately. Key Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Bachelors degree in engineering field with understanding of advanced quality engineering practices, principles, processes, etc.; or equivalent. 3-5 years quality engineering experience, experience in high volume production and assembly, preferred. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to advanced quality engineering. Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity to work on moderate to long-term assignments which are broad in nature. Strong organizational, project management, and leadership skills to prioritize, coordinate projects, manage conflicting needs, and deal with many issues at one time. Must be able to work independently. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts and represent Plews in a professional manner when performing job duties. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to exercise influence at various levels and functions. Must be able to operate standard and specialized equipment related to the job. Strong computer background with ability to calculate and analyze data, generate reports, present information, etc. Required Skills/Attributes: General, well-rounded manufacturing and quality knowledge Motivated and analytical with strong problem solving and critical thinking skills Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task on numerous projects Strong communication and interpersonal skills Competent in the use of computers and operating systems with proficiency in MicroSoft Office software products Professional Relationships: Engineering and Quality teams Sales, Sourcing, Supply Chain/Customer Service, and Marketing teams Plews customers, suppliers and contract manufacturers Various Production and Distribution personnel Various other Plews employees and leadership team members Physical Requirements: Sitting for long periods of time (6+ hours per day) Viewing computer screen for majority of the work day Dexterity to successfully operate office machines (PC, phone, fax, copier, scanner) Ability to efficiently maneuver around the office and production/distribution floor when necessary Minimal travel (less than 5%); potentially international at times |
