Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility 1-3 days per week or 40% in office and 60% remote.

If so, then the High Voltage Propulsion Battery Systems Engineering position is for you! The Battery System Engineer is responsible for the development and documentation of requirements for the battery system within a variety of potential products. To develop these requirements, this engineer needs to be able to develop battery-pack electrical and thermal models, interpret analyses results, and clearly communicate the results to GM internal and external customers. This position is an individual contributor role. He or she will be responsible for tasks throughout the entire product development lifecycle. This includes requirements definition, system analysis, design, testing, and problem resolution. This job is ~60% work-from-home and ~40% in-office. Other arrangements may be discussed based on candidate qualifications.

Responsibilities:
Perform electrical, thermal, and statistical analyses to synthesize and allocate requirements.

Develop methods and software tools required for analytical work.

Lead other engineers and work groups to develop and balance requirements both internal and external to GM.

Manage key strategic interfaces within propulsion and vehicle systems to enable component reuse and adherence to best practices.

Coordinate requirements development with other product systems (both automotive and non-automotive).

Strong ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data.

Design tests to efficiently identify opportunities for design improvements.

Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Identify and document system vulnerabilities and create mitigation action plans; track corrective actions.

Responsible for benchmarking the industry performance across many types of battery systems.

Additional Job Description

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent.

6+ years of demonstrated technical knowledge and ability in relevant engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrochemistry Based Energy Storage, DC and AC Power, Materials, Thermal, EMC, Control Theory).

Experience with and/or knowledge of relevant technologies (e.g. Vehicle battery systems, high voltage hardware, electric traction motors, power electronics).

Experience or knowledge of relevant tools and coding languages (e.g.: Matlab, Simulink, Rhapsody, IBM Change Synergy, IBM Rational Team Concert, Siemens NX, Python, Maxis, Jupyter).

Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results.

Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.

Strong understanding of major automotive subsystems.

Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others.

Desired Skills:

Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent.

DFSS Black Belt.
