Responsibilities
General Purpose:
Coordinate activities on projects related to the electrical support for the Medical Center Facilities Operations Group. Projects include Planning & Project Management Group, Medical Center Facilities Construction and Operations Groups. Provide direction to specific facilities groups in the support of electrical planning and coordination efforts, through education and insuring that the integrity of the project is achieved. Position will interact with all groups/departments and levels of management/leadership within the University of Rochester/Strong Health Organization as well as all outside consultants/contractors associated with facilities support and construction. Assures sound stewardship of the University’s resources and compliance with State and University regulatory requirements. Represents the University at intradepartmental as well as City/County meetings. Ensure future work meets design standards. Develops/updates infrastructure standards. Familiarization with codes necessary. Ability to work within a self-directed management team concept. Act as a liaison with management teams to ensure required resources are identified, planned and scheduled in order to execute efficiently. Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs. Strong communication skills needed in order to keep everyone appraised of projects status and ongoing work. Strong organizational skills needed in order to schedule project work without a loss of service to the medical facilities. Must be able to deal effectively with all levels of University personnel.
Responsibilities:
Manage all related electrical and fire alarm projects at the Medical Center as well as off-site properties. Provide same support to UR affiliates: Highland Hospital, Strong West and Thompson Hospital. Oversee efforts of MCFO electrical team. Scope of projects range from $100,000 to $5,000,000.
Apply technical knowledge and provide support in the electrical field with regards to the Medical Center infrastructure. Provides resolution of major electrical issues at all Strong Health sites. Responds to all technical support needs at all Strong Health assets for all major electrical maintenance, repair and construction efforts.
Represents the Medical Center Facilities Organization in reviewing of drawings and specifications with design consultants. Insure that the integrity of the information meets University’s design and facilities standards.
Identify and assemble skilled trades based on project requirements. Work with managers to insure appropriate staff resource allocation is maintained throughout the project.
Supports all related electrical work to include primary power, secondary power, emergency power, fire protection, as well as several other infrastructure systems.
Primary point of contact for IT, ISD, CCTV, television and associated system support.
Works closely with University’s Chief Safety, Fire Marshall and Compliance Officer. Maintains professional relationships with City and County officials as it relates to impact to the community and local electrical Associations.
Is the lead on all project reviews to ensure future work meets the UR design standards and provides the most value for the investment. Provides leadership and technical oversight for all electrical and fire alarm infrastructure projects.
Provide continual communication to customers, senior leaders, etc. Coordinate work to meet the needs of an extremely challenging environment, without a loss of service to the hospital(s).
Education/Experience (minimum required):
Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or related discipline and 3 to 5 years’ experience in facilities operations, maintenance and building construction or equivalent education and experience. Preferred knowledge and experience in the development of electrical systems.
Prefer knowledge of construction and maintenance operations, building and fire codes, and construction and renovation estimating techniques. Prefer experience with identification of deficiencies in electrical, mechanical, structural and experience directing union skilled trade personnel. Experience in project management desirable.
Must utilize basic office software programs, i.e.: word processor, spreadsheet, project management, presentation tools. Knowledge of work order systems a plus
