The Production Engineer will be responsible for leading and facilitating projects to achieve sustainable change and continuous improvement which will focus on safety, process improvement, inventory control, quality, cost reduction and leadership.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Engineer will work to create a sustainable culture that promotes increasing efficiencies throughout their manufacturing facility.
Functional Responsibilities:
Analyze all facets or production and make recommendations for continuous improvement
Identify, develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing operations
Work closely with the sales, engineering, prototype and production teams in generating, monitoring and reporting on results of cost estimates and provide recommendations for adjustments, as appropriate
Work with management to establish quality & production/performance standards, goals, measures and metrics and effectively implement, educate and provide performance results against targets
Prioritize continuous improvement initiatives to drive short-term and long-term improvements Lead continuous improvement initiatives through the project life cycle to include activities such as process assessments, project planning, collaboration with stakeholders and process users, process observation and baseline metrics collection, team facilitation, and follow-up to ensure sustained results Manage performance of continuous improvement initiatives, actions, and cross-functional activities
Work closely with engineering and management to establish quality inspection processes and procedures that ensures quality standards are met at various stages throughout operation
Conduct quality audits throughout the operation according to established schedules with proper documentation of all assessments and findings
Record, investigate and report any returned products and quality issues; Maintain warranty and return information involving the analysis of returned product
Communicate with management and any relevant outside vendor(s) regarding quality initiatives, required training and developed corrective actions.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or related discipline is highly desired, or a minimum of 5 years extensive related experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Experience working in a manufacturing environment in either a leadership position or a matrix leadership role, college internship or co-op program would be considered
Experience facilitating, coaching and implementing TPM, Lean, kaizen/six sigma events and driving lean transformation with proven results and implementations highly desired
Experience in identifying manufacturing process opportunities with successful corrective action/issue resolution
Education or experience in project planning/management tools and techniques, lean and visual tools and methodologies driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Successful demonstration of applying continuous process improvement mindset that drives improved efficiencies and cost reduction while placing a premium on safety and quality
Possess results-driven mentality with excellent self-management and organizational skills
High level of technical, critical thinking, problem solving and analytical reasoning skills.
Ability to manage multiple, unrelated tasks in an organized manner with attention to detail and thoroughness while balancing changing priorities and challenges
Proven ability to successfully manage cross functional teams, and implement improvement within an established time frame, then sustain improvements
Candidates must have high energy and results oriented Ability and desire to train and coach others to improve performance Excellent written and verbal communication skills in terms of being clear, concise, and professional with the ability to work effectively with a wide array of plant personnel ranging from hourly employees to senior management Ability to quickly adapt communications in a variety of settings to meet the unique needs of multiple audiences Candidate must be able to embrace and lead change, possess strong interpersonal skills, and can efficiently balance multiple projects
