Job Overview and Responsibilities
Leads product research and development projects for specific customer applications and/or technology growth, with particular emphasis on increasing use of sustainable materialsDevelops and characterizes new compounds and/or polymers on a laboratory scaleDevelops new process technology enabling new product developmentCollaborates with sales & marketing, customers, commercial, customer technical development, and suppliers in the development and commercialization of new materials and applicationsProvides technical training to colleagues, sales & marketing, and customers as appropriateSupports compounding industrial group in technology transfer to commercial production plantsProvides technical support to commercial production plants, including troubleshootingWork with supply chain, customer service and toll compounders to schedule productionWork with manufacturing sites to ensure correct feedstock materials are usedScreens and characterizes new raw materials for suitability in commercial productionReviews and monitors patent/scientific literature relevant to research areasLeads or collaborates on external R&D programs with universities/institutions or other Solvay businesses to evaluate emerging technologiesDocuments research in technical reports and patent applicationsFacilitates the development and professional growth of assigned researchers/techniciansMaintains a safe work environment for self and othersParticipates in peer and area coordinator safety audits and attends all required safety meetings and trainingOccasional off-hours meetings with international colleagues & customersBusiness travel to customers and conferences as required
Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Material Science & Engineering, Polymer Chemistry and/or Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a polymer emphasis, or related fieldPreferred qualification: experience with high performance polymers or compoundsPreferred qualification: 2+ years R&D experience with compounds or polymers developmentPreferred qualification: technical/customer service experience
