Job Summary
The Operations Optimization Engineer will support DKL Operations by troubleshooting operational issues across DKL’s facilities, optimizing the operation of existing facilities, providing engineering support and monitoring for the company’s leak detection systems, and will provide input to the development of projects for new Greenfield assets and major brownfield facility upgrades and expansions associated with the Company’s hazardous liquids midstream pipelines, terminals, facilities, trucking stations, and loading racks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Enforce and maintain company safety policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, and for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public.
Carry out hydraulic modelling in support of short-term operations optimization activities, and forward-looking models for bottleneck identification in support of project development.
In collaboration with discipline SMEs and Operations personnel in DKLs control center and in the field, support in troubleshooting operational issues.
Develop system optimization workflows to maximize on-pipe barrels, minimize chemical injection, and minimize power usage across DKL’s facilities.
Support development and tuning of Leak Detection Systems using Emerson’s Pipeline Manager package, starting from data collection to configuration, testing, and supporting the product in the production environment.
Developing and tuning RTTM and Mass balance Leak Detection Systems using AVEVA PIM package, starting from data collection to configuration, testing, and supporting the product in the production environment.
Work closely with the Operations Control Center and the SCADA department in maintaining the connectivity between the LDS and SCADA supplied data.
Assist Pipeline Control and Operations when needed and provide after-hours support in order to verify alarms/alerts within the leak detection model
Define and monitor leak detection system KPIs
Plan and execute tests such as physical leak draws and software based tests.
Develop, promote and maintain positive working relationships with consultants, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and all departments within the company.
Mentor and coach junior engineers.
Provide analytics and other information and feedback to management.
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required Education
College graduate with a four-year Bachelor’s engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
6-10+ years’ progressive experience of hazardous liquids midstream pipeline industry experience is preferred, or 10+ years of refining, petrochemical, gas midstream, or upstream oil & gas experience required
At least 3 years’ experience working in an operation support role with an emphasis on optimization.
Extensive flow assurance, hydraulics and leak detection system experience including the use of software packages such as Emerson Pipeline Studio, Aspentech HYSYS, and Emerson Pipeline Manager.
Deep knowledge of API and related industry standards and best practices
Experience in the use and configuration of OSIsoft PI to develop tools and dashboards.
Willing to attend and participate industry-sponsored conferences, seminars, training, and summits.
Working knowledge of PHMSA regulations, DOT Part 195, TX Railroad Commission, ASME B31.3 and B31.4 design standards, and API Recommended Practices
Overnight travel to company locations and facilities for meetings, training, special projects, emergency planning, or information gathering will be required.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
Must be willing to submit to DOT random drug & alcohol screening
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in an ABET-Engineering program
10-12 years’ progressive experience of hazardous liquids midstream pipeline industry experience.
A Professional Engineering Licensure is desirable
