| Job Description : | Adanta, Inc. is search of a candidate that can serve as a part of an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) multidisciplinary team for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) contract. The selected candidate will conduct various on-site inspections applying General Industry, Construction and Laboratory standards, and regulations for compliance producing an in depth report as a deliverable; recognizing, evaluating, and developing the necessary hazard abatement controls relating to OSH and specific safety discipline with the ability to research and recommend solutions for the NAS) community; proficiency in OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards a must, General Industry experience focused on Life Safety Code (LSC) highly recommended, National Fire Protection Association Standards (NFPA) 70, National Electric Code, and NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces highly recommended, and the ability to apply OSH and LSC standards to review and generate a report for new design construction project drawings, strong report writing and computer skills; code compliance and application relating to NASA and Goddard Procedural Requirements (GPR); excellent training skills specific to CPR/First Aid trainer and other OSH classes assigned by Project Manager. Knowledge in application of risk assessment to Facility Systems Safety for high hazard NASA facilities.Basic Job Duties: Ability to support the Occupational Safety and Health compliance programs at GSFC providing policy interpretation and the implementation of continual improvements consistent with regulatory requirements.Field survey inspections and investigations to determine existing safety conditions of facilities, structures, systems, and equipment to be incompliance with NFPA, IBC, OSHA, and fire and safety code compliance.Inspect buildings annually for OSHA and NFPA compliance.Emergency response to Emergency Tone Out calls by Security Operations Console for emergencies such as Medical, Fire, Hazardous Materials and Environmental/IRT (Incident Response Team).Assist with investigating Mishaps and provide technical guidance on resolution for the government.Work in conjunction with emergency services to resolve occupational hazards.Investigate alternative when program changes or engineering compromises must be made.Inspect construction and maintenance work for OSHA and NFPA compliance.Review architectural or engineering plans (new buildings and renovations) to determine compliance with NFPA, IBC, fire and building safety codes.Author Facility Safety Management Plan and Focused Risk Assessments of high-risk facilities or areas within the NASA complex. Facility System Safety is an overall 3- to 6‑month assessment of the NASA facility.Teach CPR/First Aid and any assigned OSH related classes to the NASA community by Program Manager.Attend all assigned OSH meetings and provide safety input.Review paperwork (job plans) and provide approval or notify of required changes.Perform assigned worksite inspections of Construction or General Industry areas on Center.Work with employees to ensure operations progress smoothly.Identify and correct safety deficiencies in both facilities and work functions.Provide guidance to employees and assist in determining workplace hazards and appropriate mitigations.Perform program/procedure audits. Stop work (and correct behavior) if conditions/actions are determined to be hazardous. Investigate mishaps and/or OSH concerns.Attend and record the Operational test results for fire alarm testing to report to the government customer.Able to physically negotiate the hazards of a construction work site (i.e., uneven surfaces, floor opening, heights, climbing, etc.).Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.Inspect facilities or sites to determine if they meet specifications or standards, inspect equipment or systems.Assist with accidents, injuries, or incidents to determine causes and preventive measures; investigate safety of work environment.Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents; investigate safety of work environment.Assist the government with incident investigations and report findings to project manager; maintain operation records or records systems; and document design or operation test results for fire alarm testing.Review sub-contractor safety programs and provide OSH feedback to ensure effectiveness relating to GSFC.Investigate safety of work environment.Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.Provide technical advice and guidance to organizations on how to handle occupational safety-related problems and make needed changes in the NASA community; advise on safety issues.Additional Skills: Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.Self-management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.Safety Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate safety hazards in the design and use of facilities, equipment, operations, and work processes.Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.Additional Information/Requirements: Experience: 4+ years’ experience in Occupational Safety and Health preferred; experience in general industry and life safety code and additional construction experience a plus.Education: College degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in Occupational Safety and Health or related field and/or discipline.Contractor working on a government facility.Appointment to this position will require a background investigation – Background check conducted to fulfill requirement of security badges at NASA.
