The Mechanical Engineer I uses engineering techniques to design, maintain, and improve new and existing products for engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility. This position will serve our Water Heater Division, located in Montgomery, AL. WHAT YOU’LL DO Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts. Work in a Product Lifecycle Management system for CAD data management, electronic change order processing, bill of material structure, and data transfer Sketches rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes. Experience with 3D solid models and 2D production drawings. Plan, coordinate, and check engineering changes before documentation release. Must be able to follow projects and provide hands-on support from concept through design, prototype, and manufacturing of finished products. Conduct simple structural analysis using FEA software desired. Investigate and troubleshoot product design-related problems and opportunities, documenting findings and performing corrective/improvement changes. Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Develop evaluation test plans and coordinate with designers and lab personnel on the test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data, and means for achieving desired test results. Investigate pertinent factors such as inter-changeability, service requirements, efficiency, and agency requirements.
