What You’ll Do
The Projects Engineering Mechanical Supervisor/Manager position, reporting to a Director/Senior Director within the Mission Engineering Division, is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to a Chemical, Piping and Welding Engineering group supporting the Projects Engineering organization. This group consists of multi-discipline engineers, technical support personnel, and potentially subcontract employees, responsible for providing multi-discipline engineering services (both internal and subcontracted) in support of projects. The manager assigns engineers to support projects and minor non-projects. Ensures the Engineering organization’s performance of the established scope of work within budget and schedule. Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, establishing goals, and expectations. Advises senior leadership of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to manage, using project management techniques such as tracking and trending, scheduling and cost estimating to meet reliability, operability, cost, schedule and quality expectations; knowledge of engineering principles and their application to risk analysis, qualitative risk assessment, facilities and systems operation, and manufacturing processes and systems; working knowledge of engineering principles and standard industry operations.

Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering/science discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Job Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. A Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of and experience in engineering disciplines being supervised to provide comprehensive direction to staff and work group. Knowledgeable of Y-12 business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish work
Skills in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, personnel management and design management
Computer-literate and have good working knowledge of software tools that support engineering design activities including computer-aided design
Extensive technical expertise and full knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers
Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineering disciplines
Ability to apply technical skills of engineering to the design of facilities and/or appurtenances to facilities
Ability to prepare, read, and/or interpret complex engineering drawings
Ability to conduct formal presentations to plant personnel and other interested parties
Ability to review projects for technical accuracy
Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
