| Job Description : | GrafTech International has an immediate opening for a scientist/engineer with a strong materials science or chemical engineer with process engineering background specifically in materials mixing, and extrusion processes. The position will be based out of the Brooklyn Heights, OH location. The successful candidate will lead projects that will result in improvements to synthetic graphite materials used in demanding industrial applications. Direct experience with industrial carbon and graphite materials is a plus. Familiarity with statistical/mathematical modeling of data is preferred.A successful candidate will be skilled at developing new and novel processes at the bench scale with experience in scaling them to pilot and full production scale. Works closely with the R&D modeling and corporate engineering teams.Job Responsibilities:Lead graphite process improvement projects through a staged project management system. Work closely with staff in technology, engineering, production, marketing, and sales to translate findings and recommendations into best practices and implement in production.Adapt and extend industrial graphite technology in novel ways to solve problems of diverse technical nature and in support of new product and process development.In plant support for new plant production processes and serves as interface between Central Engineering and R&D for these large capital programs.Provide written reports or oral presentations to management and customers.Participate in seeing specific objectives and standards for projects.Continually expand own technical breadth and depth through study of open literature, proprietary reports, conferences, and personal contacts.Qualifications:A M.S. or Ph.D. in science or engineering or equivalent education and experience.Strong working knowledge of materials science and engineering principles, especially metals, ceramics, and composites.Knowledge of processing some or all technologies relevant to the manufacture of graphite electrodes; solids/liquids mixing, extrusion and hydrocarbon impregnation.Experience with statistical and mathematical data analysis of data sets.Experience with setting up, executing, and analyzing designed experiments based on statistical methods. Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.Demonstrated ability to work in team environment.Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and think creatively.
