Job Description : Job Purpose: As a key position in the Continuous Improvement Group, this role exists to ensure that Apex lives its strategy of executing Lean better than anyone else in the business.Job Responsibilities and Duties: (Percentages = priority and approximate time focus)1. Develop and innovate manufacturing solutions that lower costs, increase revenue or add value to existing customer products. 45%· Develop and implement improvements to existing manufacturing equipment and major processes, that increase up-time, shorten lead time, improve rate of production, improve reliability, or accuracy, for assigned projects.· Work with Equipment Steering team to identify, recommend and source equipment that increases efficiency and leads to cost savings for the customer.· Ensure that the implementation of manufacturing solutions for existing products or product improvements is completed in accordance with project ROI and timeline objectives.· Influence adoption of cost savings ideas with customers and gain agreement on prioritization.· Proactively add value to all customer projects through “Value Engineering”.· Measure variances to standards, identify out of control variances, and investigate reasons, drive solutions and follow up to improve results/efficiencies.· Conduct cost comparison studies: analyze work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data such as production costs, production routing procedures and production schedules to determine and ensure more efficient utilization of workers and equipment· Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment and purchase equipment. Tracks results of changes to ensure effectiveness of solution.2. Actively promote and maintain a culture of “lean action” within the organization so that we live lean better than any organization. 25%· Implement and maintain standards and processes that eliminate waste (Poka-Yoke, SMED, TPM)· Create a Visual Factory (Andon, Kanban, travel paths, Visual Standard Work)· Establish basic competency in the organization in the use of “lean tools” to permanently implement improvements (8 wastes, 5s, Takt Time)· Institutionalize 5-S throughout the organization (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain)· Lead implementation of TPM· Lead and facilitate Lean Six Sigma projects, Continuous Improvement activities and Kaizen events· Train, mentor and coach Lean practitioners and Improvement Agents in Lean and Lean Six Sigma tools (Value Stream Mapping/Analysis, single piece flow, DMAIC)3. Customer Focused Expert who ensures the lean manufacturability of our new customer products within the Apex value stream. 25%· Effectively on-board and integrate the tooling, packaging and production requirements of existing products into the Apex manufacturing environment.· Influence the concept and development project stages of new products to ensure process capability, manufacturing efficiency and create seamless launches.· Provide accurate and timely identification and cost estimating of required tooling and equipment.· Ensure that tooling and equipment are ordered, delivered, installed and tested in accordance with project timelines and objectives.· Ensure comprehensive documentation and training is completed for new equipment.· Proactively communicate project work status to internal teams based on project requirements.· Ensure customer satisfaction by communicating project status and ongoing opportunities to customer and/or Account Manager.· Ensure reports and information are based on fact and are clear, accurate and timely.· Follow-through to ensure reports are understood and utilized.4. Perform other work as assigned. 5%Definition of Terms: Add Value = Move the Business ForwardDirection and oversight of others: NoneQualification and Skill Requirements: Prior Experience: This position requires at 1-2 years of experience in a process improvement role within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience leading LEAN initiatives/Rapid Improvement events.Knowledge Requirement: To be effective, this position requires specific knowledge of lean manufacturing terms and techniques and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. Requires specific knowledge in manufacturing, ideally in the personal care, cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical products industry. An understanding of cGMP, DOE/SPC, CAPA, ISO, and CAD is highly desirable.Licenses and Certifications: Lean Six Sigma BlackBelt certification is requiredTechnical Skills and Competencies: · Demonstrated analytical ability with understanding of basic statistics· Strong project management and organizational skills· Ability to exercise judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives· Excellent verbal and written communication skills· Ability to provide innovative solutions· Ability to effectively teach and mentor others in learning new concepts and utilizing new tools· Strong focus on customer service· Ability to manage timelines and balance multiple deadlines in a fast paced environmentTechnical Skills and Competencies, continued:· Can maintain and grow technical knowledge and expertise. It has a moderate demand for tight deadlines. This position will experience moderate interruption in workflow. It has a low rate of overnight and day travel.Physical Demands: This position requires:· Moderate (up to 4 hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting and grasping· Moderate (up to 4 hours per day) standing and walking· Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement· Sensory requirements: Good eyesight, normal hearing, ability to speak clearly and to be understood in the English language· Moving and lifting objects, sometimes 50 lbs, occasionallyWorking Conditions: · Indoors, air conditioned.· Will be exposed to various fragrances which at times may be at elevated levels.· Travel when it occurs will be by car and airplane.Work Schedule: This position usually works for eight to ten (8-10) hours during the period of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. However, hours of work are flexible and will fluctuate based on the needs of the business and the customers. The job may require a maximum of 5-20 hours of work beyond the normal weekly work schedule depending on work demands.
