Job Description : A technical professional who will be responsible for most CNC programming on the shop floor, creating and maintaining operational drawings, and creating/modifying some tool designs. Assist in providing the overall process design and measures for improvement of manufacturing, thereby increasing productivity and improving manufacturing costs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Establish, maintain and review: Work Instructions, Down Time Log, Machine Crash Log, Broken Tool Log, Tool Change Log, Training Matrix, Process Sheets, Set Up Sheets, and Inspection Sheets.

Executes trials, including data analysis, supplier run-offs, and effectiveness of all poke-yokes.

Leads and participates in the review and updating of machine and tool standards, including poke-yoke to reduce manufacturing errors.

Contributes to and supports the existence of a positive work environment through personal involvement by communicating, interacting and behaving in a manner that promotes productive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, customers and others.

Implement the transition of new technology to make sure production continues successfully without any interruptions.

Incorporate changes based on feedback on first article of production.

Process external as well as internal Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

Design all work holding tooling and gaging as necessary to fabricate part completely.

Provide input on the purchase of all cutting tools for the mills, lathes and machining centers as necessary to complete the part to the customer’s specifications.

Support shop supervisor, setup people and operators to assure machines are running smoothly.

Work with operators on new part setup to ensure finished product meets customer specifications.

Work with the maintenance department to minimize down time to eliminate bottlenecks.

Makes recommendation on replacement or additional equipment to meet capacity requirements.

Support QA as necessary on setup inspection, final inspection and disposition of suspect parts.

Assist with quotes for new and existing customers.

Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints to determine sequence of operations in a program.

Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software while running simulations or tests.

Writes and modifies programs, analyze and select speeds and cutting tools for optimal efficiency.

Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money for the client.

Monitors all programs to verify they follow blueprint instructions and safely and successfully complete the task.

Complies with all safety rules and regulations.

Independently program and machine prototypes and production parts with tight tolerances, and repeat jobs.

**Skills and Specifications **(This is not an entry level position)

Advanced oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate across departments and within a team.

Proficient investigative, analytical, problem solving and process analysis skills.

Ability to work within a team environment and adhere to deadlines.

Requires some physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the job.

Proficient in tooling design for fixtures.

Education and Qualifications

Required

High level of knowledge in programming mills and lathes for complex parts with small tolerances

Proficient in use of SolidWorks, Mastercam or equivalent Cad program.

Strong mechanical aptitude and understand of efficient work holding techniques.

Strong knowledge of machine functions (G-codes, M-codes, work offsets, etc.)

Familiarity with production machining practices for cutting Aluminum, Aluminum Extrusions and Steel

Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

Ability to identify and address CNC machine issues related to the product quality

Experience in use of calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, height gauges, etc.

Preferred

Experience in high volume, automotive machining of various metals

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology or equivalent work experience

Strong math skills including geometry, algebra and trigonometry to solve shop related problems.

Proficient in blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation.
