We’re a strong team of skilled individuals working together to create high quality products and effective solutions.UMC is looking for a Manager of Engineering to oversee the engineering team with responsibilities of quoting, process development, quality process development, troubleshooting jobs in production, scheduling work of team, continuous improvements, level loading of machine equipment, optimizing processes, reducing scrap and rework, creating/editing drawings, CNC programing, and managing and mentoring the engineering team. This role is responsible for managing to their budget and ensuring profitable and timely production of parts meeting the designated standards related to customer expectations and governing bodies.ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties and responsibilities of the Manager of Engineering consist of but are not limited to:Coach and support employee performance by providing timely feedback and conducting performance reviewsEstablish departmental goals and objectives to attain the business objectives set by the Director of Engineering and Quality, making sure goal align with overall company goalsPlan, direct, and coordinate the engineering activities and resources to support company goals, objectives and profitability of operationsWork cross functionally to ensure efficient production with a profitable outcomeMaximize the efficiency of production schedules through production process creation and troubleshooting to ensure effective use of both human and capital resources utilizationParticipate actively in standardization of processes, cost reduction, and continuous improvement in collaboration with other functional teamsMaintain employee safety and morale by creating a safe and efficient working environmentIdentify, recruit, hire, coach and retain top talent to meet organizational needs for engineeringOrganize and structure the engineering department to facilitate lean, efficient and effective performance of business operations (production and quality) focused on quoting, process development, inspection, troubleshooting jobs in production and creating/editing drawings.Responsible for departmental expenses and managing area to budgetEngages in performance management activities that support business objectives and prepares for effective leadership successionConsistently evaluates departmental structure and talent to meet evolving business needs to achieve company goals and objectivesIdentifies, develops and implements business processes in the areas of quoting, production/quality process development, inspection, troubleshooting jobs in production and creating/editing drawingsDelivers coaching, training and development opportunities to engineering personnelEnsures compliance with company and customer standards for key performance indicators related to engineeringKeeps abreast of new trends, innovations, and opportunities of the engineering function within the manufacturing industryEnsures compliance with all rules, regulations and laws related to areas of responsibilityEnsures engineering schedules are managed effectively to hit due dates such as engineering lead times, quote turn around, and production trouble shooting.Other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceMinimum requirements: High School diploma or equivalentPreferred: Undergraduate degree in Engineering or applicable10+ years supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing environmentProgressive experience in precision manufacturing environment with equipment, materials, processes and systemsCompetenciesDecisiveness: Able to make effective and timely decisionsAbility to foster organizational changeEmpowers othersStrong problem solving skillsStrong business acumenStrong financial acumenExcellent communication skills (oral and written)Ability to prioritize work effectivelyAbility to work on multiple projects while maintaining a high level of accuracyUse of metrics to support organizational objectives and goalsEmbodies the personal commitment to the shared core values of UMC: Curiosity, Versatility, Integrity, Grit, Go BeyondAbout us:We are a 200-person precision manufacturing companyWe are growing, and currently under construction is our expansion that we call the Armstrong ProjectWe offer generous paid time off, and health and welfare benefitsThis is a full-time position located in Monticello, MN and onsite each day.UMC is an Equal Employment Opportunity EmployerJob Type: Full-timeSchedule:8 hour shiftMonday to FridayWork Location: One location |
