The Manager of Automation is responsible for Distribution Center automated systems management including maintenance, engineering, and operational support. Additionally, the role supports operations 24/7 for troubleshooting downtime issues of our major material handling systems.
The role works closely with field management to assure the timely resolution of automation equipment issues and implementation of automation projects. The manager has strong relationships with the MHE industry and must ensure building automation systems meet or exceed all local and governing codes.
Location: This position has a hybrid schedule, remote and out of Ferguson’s state of the art corporate offices in Newport News, VA.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing the uptime and reliability of all automation equipment, sortation and conveyor systems which support the day-to-day fulfillment operations.
Provides troubleshooting and technical support for facilities managers and staff, to maintain the DCs automation assets.
Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of multi-year automation sustainability program.
Research, plans, and recommends mechanical enhancements or repairs for automated material handling systems.
Evaluates field installations and recommends proactive maintenance and / or design modifications to prevent system failures network wide.
Develops succession plan for automation maintenance and shares knowledge, mentors’ team, and supporting cross training efforts to elevate team knowledge, expertise, and establishment of best practices in material handling systems.
Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance and asset management program across the DC network designed to maximize system uptime and extend the life of automation equipment.
Qualifications:
5-10+ years of Conveyor maintenance and operational experience in automated distribution center network.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline or related field (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial)
Knowledge of conveyors, sortation, goods to person systems, scanning equipment, PLC and computer controls.
Knowledge of Wynright sortation/conveyor systems, Autostore, on demand packaging systems, and supporting system infrastructure.
Managerial skills are required for a technical staff and a technical background with automation.
An IT background in integration and experience with warehouse management systems architecture.
Strong problem-solving skills; ability to break a problem or opportunity down into sub-components; identify root causes and drivers; use creative thinking skills in developing alternative solutions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including developing and articulating (written and verbal) data/process analysis and alternative solutions.
Ability to lead others to a consensus and inspire change.
Comfortable working in a team environment, displays a customer-focused approach, seeks continuous improvement in serving internal and external customers.
Familiarity with OSHA compliance.
