Position Objectives:
The Electrical & Electronics Engineering group at Mercury Marine is looking for a Harness Engineer with experience in High Voltage harness systems to help guide Mercury’s Product Development Team through component design and validation of High Voltage harness and connection systems for Mercury’s developing electric propulsion systems. This will include specifying and designing HV harnessing and connections between the electric propulsion device(s) and the battery system(s). The position will additionally include interaction with electrical engineers and technicians on the vessel design teams for the integration of Mercury’s electric propulsion and the vessel electronics.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Serve as subject-matter expert (SME) for HV harnessing and connections
Coordinate closely with internal design teams and Brunswick Enterprise companies
Development of HV schematics, leading to the design of HV harness and connection systems
Work with supply chain management on requirements for suppliers that manufacture HV harnessing and connection designs
Participate in and facilitate concept reviews, design reviews, and design FMEAs
Facilitate or participate in harness mockup/design reviews
Write test requests and create technical reports
Development and execution of validation plans
Support system-level vessel testing and validation of HV electrical hardware
Assist with or lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues related to electrical harnesses
Participate in cross-functional product development teams through Mercury’s High-Performance Product Development stage-gated process
Required Qualifications:
Minimum B.S. Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
3+ years of engineering experience working with High Voltage harnessing for EV (Electric Vehicles) or similar
Familiarity with industry standards for HV harnessing, cables, and connectors
Familiarity with 48-60V and 350V+ electrical systems
Familiarity with applicable standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508, ISO 20076, ISO 17409, IEC 62196, and SAE J-2293
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent problem definition and solving techniques
Strong teamwork skills and ability to work among cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in CAD modeling of harnesses and harness systems
Knowledge of automotive energy storage subsystems (HV Battery) and controls
Experience with CAN tools such as MotoTune, CANalyzer, or P-CAN
