Environmental Engineer
Warren, Michigan – Full Time
Productive Resources (www.pr-engservices.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at our customer’s facility in Warren, Michigan. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will provide environmental and hazardous materials management expertise to Army weapon system acquisition programs from R&D through disposal. The candidate must have experience in environmental compliance (including National Environmental Policy Act), environmental risk management, and hazardous materials management. Knowledge of and experience with DODI 5000 Series environmental requirements and the Army acquisition process is preferred. The candidate is required to provide overall management of the environmental program for Army weapon systems through developing and maintaining relationships with PM customers.
This is a full-time position that is indefinite in duration with the opportunity of professional growth, and additional opportunities within our organization.
Duties:
Overall management of environmental and hazardous materials requirements for Army weapon system programs
Working with weapons system acquisition programs to develop environmental and hazardous materials requirements for Army acquisition documents and enforcement of those requirements
Developing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation in accordance with 32 CFR 651
Developing Programmatic, Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Evaluations (PESHE) IAW DODI 5000.85 and 5000.88 in support of acquisition Milestone decisions (coordinated with Safety Office for safety related input)
Managing and tracking environmental risk IAW MIL-STD-882
Supporting the minimization/elimination and tracking of hazardous materials on weapon systems
Maintaining understanding of current and upcoming environmental laws, regulations, and policies and applicability to Army weapon systems
Review of Technical Manuals (operator and maintenance manuals for weapon systems) for the purpose of include notes, warnings, and cautions to minimize environmental risks and ensure proper handling of materials
Reviewing OEM developed hazardous materials management report to ensure compliance with program requirements (potentially developing reviewing technical data packages to develop hazardous materials management reports)
Providing guidance to customers on Army environmental and hazardous materials related policies and regulations
Reviewing engineering change proposals to identify and eliminate use of hazardous materials when possible
Recommending (in coordination with coatings/corrosion engineers) suitable alternative coatings/materials in place of obsolete specifications or for reduction of hazardous materials
Preparation of presentations, memos, information papers
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Biology with Environmental Work Experience
Mid-career engineer preferable
Self-motivated, ability to work independently (after some time of training)
Some formal environmental or hazardous materials related training
Customer focused. Our team in GVSC supports the PM Offices; we essentially work as contractors for them. They fund us for their support and customer service is a top priority.
Good problem-solving skills to include the ability to independently define, direct, and lead challenging projects/programs and identify and resolve highly complex problems.
Ability to clearly and confidently present ideas and technical information to customers either verbally and via written report
