CDM Smith’s Environmental Services Group is seeking an environmental engineer with Sediment Remediation experience to be located at the CDM Smith Portland Oregon office.
The candidate must have demonstrated expertise working independently, leading a team of engineers and scientists, and/or managing tasks on sediment remediation projects for a variety of clients. These projects will ideally have involved interactions with and/or working for Federal and Public sector regulatory agencies.
Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
Providing expertise in evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and preparing sediment remediation designs for large riverine and coastal sites involving multiple stakeholders.
Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of sediment and contaminant transport, environmental site assessment, sampling technologies, cap modeling, and remedial action design.
Providing support of mathematical/statistical evaluations of environmental data sets.Serving as CDM Smith’s task manager on various components of complicated sediments sites. This includes having the ability to assess and understand a problem, develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client, and interact effectively with CDM Smith subject matter experts.Possessing an in-depth expertise in the various CERCLA process steps at sediment Superfund sites.Serving as a technical liaison with the client, communicating complicated technical evaluations and designs to non-subject matter experts.Leading other staff in preparing/reviewing/scrutinizing technical information to provide a document that is technically sound and that conforms to applicable regulations and policy.
In addition to possessing sediments expertise and experience, this candidate shall support CDM Smith’s environmental remediation team. This will involve similar roles described above, but they may be applied at non-sediments sites such as groundwater plumes or terrestrial contamination.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
5 years of related experience.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Skills and Abilities
Expert knowledge of scientific, engineering, and mathematical principles relevant to environmental remediation projects, particularly sediment remediation projects.Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to understand highly complex issues and tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or PhD preferred.
Prior consulting experience preferred.
