Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-4 x per week.

We are seeking a highly motivated & dynamic people leader with demonstrated High Voltage Hardware and High Voltage Systems technical knowledge to apply their skills on the development if industrial back up power systems. No industrial back up power experience necessary as this will be a unique opportunity to learn on the job.

Requires experience leading hardware development, specifications, and systems. A proven leader that can inspire cross-functional teams. Someone with the patience and the ability to work with new suppliers to support this emerging business. An individual with business acumen and political savvy to navigate the dynamic and somewhat vague technologies. The position will offer the opportunity to lead a team High Voltage Hardware Design Release Engineers responsible for component and system design requirements, execution of design, detailed specifications, and UL testing of High Voltage hardware. The individual will provide technical direction and product development leadership for the development team, which consists of GM and Supplier engineers.

Responsibilities, oversee and lead the following:

Compile and specify component requirements for back up power systems,

Integrate high voltage battery,

Develop high voltage electrical mechanizations

Compile all vital requirement documents for the component purchasing process and provide technical expertise during purchasing process.

Facilitate and provide technical direction to the component Product Development Team (PDT) meetings.

Negotiate design changes from various GM and non-GM teams

Facilitate component Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) review meetings.

Review and approve electrical and mechanical interface design simulations, analysis, and design demonstration plans

Sign off of each design requirement in the compliance verification document.

Oversee the team on production release components as required to meet system timing requirements.

Review and approve validation plan as well as the component Supplier’s manufacturing process.

Facilitate hardware warranty review meetings.

Supervise Supplier development progress.

Develop design and verification test lessons learned

Design and development of high voltage components.

Work with UL on compliance testing

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree.

5+ years of experience in Design, Development, Validation of high voltage components

2+ years of people leader experience

Proven global experience working directly with electrical component Suppliers.

Experience with Component Statement of Requirements (SOR) and Component Technical Specification (CTS) development and change document management.

Experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) quality processes.

Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical systems and components.

Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or PDT’s

Experience with high voltage battery and related failure modes desired

Ability to tackle, coordinate, define, and design complex systems specifications, input/output processes and working parameters.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Preferred:

Master of Science degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree.

10+ years of experience in Design, Development, Validation, and release for automotive electrical/electronic components.

Experience with high voltage batteries and modules

High level of competence in writing and comprehending electrical and hardware requirements and understanding of hardware and software design and failure modes in electronic modules.

Proven technical and professional skills in systems engineering area.

Understanding of electrical design analysis and design verification of high voltage and low voltage circuits, fuses, contactors, current sensors, battery management controllers, solid state relays, EMC, printed circuit board layout, serial communications, diagnostics and application software.

Understanding of mechanical design analysis and design verification of module packaging, fasteners, injection molding, stamping, extrusions, die casting, sheet metal, bus bars, wiring, electrical connectors, connector pin crimps, sealing systems, adhesives, printed circuit board construction, thermal interfaces, high voltage creepage and clearance.
