About the role:
This Mechanical Design Engineer Role will work within the Equipment Engineering Department. This individual will lead design teams to develop, design, test, and document tools, fixturing, and automated manufacturing equipment that produce BSC products. The designs created will serve the needs of internal BSC customers mainly at the Maple Grove site.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Work with cross functional project teams to create manufacturing solutions based on design requirements
Solve complex manufacturing challenges in a wide range of technical areas by creating appropriate equipment designs
Lead the development of concepts and design solutions
Develop time and cost estimates for the mechanical portion of equipment development
Lead the development of prototype concepts and proof of concept testing
Design pneumatic systems and specify pneumatic components
Understand and apply mechanical engineering principals and problem-solving skills to develop concepts and create robust, efficient designs
Monitor design team progress to ensure the completion of project deliverable within the time and cost commitments made
Drive collaboration with peers to facilitate a dynamic and efficient culture of innovation
Understand and apply material knowledge and design for manufacturability principals to produce optimal custom part designs
Apply engineering knowledge and experience to select ideal components for designs
Manage, organize, and prioritize own workload
Seek out information required to understand manufacturing processes such that improvements and solutions can be developed
Create part prints of custom machine components and assemblies
Support the fabrication, build, and debug of custom equipment
Setting an example for and mentoring junior staff during the process of working on design projects
Influence the mechanical design group by providing ideas to improve efficiency, best practices, business practices, and other continuous improvement ideas

What We’re Looking For:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
6+ years of relevant work experience
Must be able to communicate effectively with verbal, written, and presentation methods.
3D CAD proficiency, ideally with SolidWorks
Strong Mechanical Aptitude
Strong problem-solving ability

Preferred Qualifications
Seasoned, experienced mechanical design engineer
Knowledge of materials and machining processes
Ability to focus on the big picture, and details during complex problem solving
Knowledge of, and experience with manufacturing equipment
Possess a collaborative spirit that shares and promotes diverse ideas and thoughts across the group
Passion for mechanical things, mechanical design, and problem solving
Experience with the project management process
