Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Energy Services Engineering Manager.This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKSPerforming field and office engineering work; assisting with field survey work; entering data into computer system; operating automated drafting equipment; maintaining records and files. Assigns addresses to new subdivisions, individual lots and for land records; corrects incorrectly numbered addresses. Researches easements; records new easements and plats; researches existing rights-of-way; records new rights-of-way agreements and plats; researches property titles. Assists in the field with survey work; locates utilities; traces out drainage ditches. Assists in construction layout and stakeout. Coordinates site selection with Cemetery Supervisor and family members; prepares costs for openings and closings; prepares bill and forwards to funeral homes; prepares and processes plot deeds; reviews records for payment; enters information into ArcView records. Conducts subdivision plat reviews; reviews plats for sidewalk easements. Writes legal descriptions for acquiring street rights-of-way, utility easements and temporary easements. Writes ordinance additions to traffic schedule. Forwards paperwork to E-911 and picks up list of approved and disapproved street names; contacts appropriate person; Notifies various utility companies of annexations. Reviews Census Bureau maps for accuracy of City limits. Conducts traffic counts; surveys parking facilities and spaces around City. Prepares requests for street closings; prepares legal notices as appropriate; prepares street closing ordinance for Council adoption. Computes drainage areas to determine proper pipe sizes and proper easement widths. Maintains comprehensive street name list and annexation list. Develops and maintains filing system for City maps; sends out various maps as requested. Answers a variety of questions from the general public and associates. Performs related tasks as required. Designs work orders for overhead and underground electric and natural gas systems for new construction, maintenance and repairs; prepares drawing and material list. Updates mapping using AutoCAD and ArcMap; Updates GIS with new sewer, water, electric and natural gas lines and associated features; designs water, sewer, electric and natural gas extensions; prepares drawings from surveys. Evaluates residential, commercial and industrial building plans with regard to service characteristics and location of service entrance equipment for electric, natural gas and water and sewer service. Field surveys and stakes out construction for new construction projects. Meets with customers, contractors and developers regarding new electric and natural gas services and electric security lights. Performs cost estimates for electric and gas services and upgrades. Provides information to builders, developers and contractors concerning City electric and natural gas services and programs. Represents City at local trade shows and meetings. Performs related tasks as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESSome knowledge of surveying and civil engineering practices, procedures and techniques; some knowledge of engineering maps and records; some knowledge of mathematics and trigonometry as applied to engineering calculations; ability to operate standard office, word processing and data entry equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering technology or related field and some surveying and engineering experience.
