The Cryogenic Controls Engineer analyzes subsystem requirements, proposes technical solutions, implements/manages the end-to-end solution, facilitates interactions with other groups, hands over to cryogenic operations, and provides continuous support. Due to the required availability and operability of the system, personnel is asked to be available off-hours at times and be able to recover operation anytime when the system goes down
Major Position Responsibilities
Lead the design, documentation, programming, and installation of EPICS/PLC based control systems for Cryogenic Systems
Interface with operations and commissioning teams to provide prompt support
Collaborate with EPICS/PLC community to keep FRIB control system up to date
Manage the preventive maintenance, repair and parts management for assigned equipment, keeping records of maintenance tasks and results
Determine ways to optimize logic or systems without adding excessive complexity ·
Foresee any potential problem areas and notify line manager
Continually strive to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and uniformity
Work with cryogenics operations staff to implement process control improvements proposed by operators and cryogenic process engineers
Work with other controls groups to maintain as much uniformity across control systems as is practical within the limits of good controls design practice for continuous process systems
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be obtained by completing a four-year college degree program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
Three or more years of experience in designing and implementing PLC controls
Experience in large-scale controls systems development and associated techniques
Understanding of distributed control system software and hardware
Ability to work with export-controlled materials
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs
Five to ten years of experience in designing and implementing PLC Controls
Experience with EPICS based controls system
Experience with Cryomodule, Vacuum, and or PS Control Systems
Experience with AutoCAD
Ability to communicate clearly within all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing, including requirements as well as system design type documents
