Job Description : The Automation Technology Engineer is primarily responsible for executing the activities pertaining to continuous process improvement in safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction and yield. This includes long term planning and near term project management for design and development of new process technology and processes and (24/7) support for the Operational Technology (OT) Network and anything related to the Rockwell Automation process control system. Intimate use of Ladder Logic, structured text, PID control loops, FT Batch and recipe management, AC/DC and Servo Drive support, and HMI software is required. Other engineering-related duties include active participation in the development and documentation of operating discipline including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, electrical diagrams, and project and equipment files; update process training for new projects; capital or maintenance project management; support and improve the Rockwell Process control system and HMI templates. This person ensures all activities are carried out in compliance with company safety rules and guidelines.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Investigates viability of state-of-the-art processes and equipment to improve overall safety, operating efficiency and product quality.
Aids in troubleshooting of electrical and controls components, motors and VFDs.
Develops and aids with department processes to support Kaizen initiatives.
Aids in the control system design process, hardware procurement, installation, troubleshooting, and diagnosing problems related to equipment or with the equipment design.
Make all relevant changes within the guidelines of management of change (MOC).
Manage individual project budget expenditures and displays proper project and contractor management.
Oversee development and on-going maintenance of process control, server and network software/hardware.
Maintain, update and improve process data requirements to ERP system, business information (BI) systems.
Maintains process control simulation and testing documentation as required.
Develops and executes trials and experiments and writes detailed technical reports.
Presents technical data and recommendations to management.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Automation Technology, or related technical discipline from an accredited four-year college or university. A minimum of three years of related experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Engineering math skills required, including previous coursework in calculus and differential equations. Proficiency in probability and statistics preferred, including familiarity with SQC/SPC.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent personal computer skills and common PC software including MS Office. Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and process documentation. Familiarity with Rockwell Automation RSLogix, FTView, Viewpoint, Historian, Transaction Manager, database applications (SQL), AutoCAD or other engineering/process modeling software, Ethernet IP and Cisco networking preferred.
