SUMMARY As an Inside Sales Engineer or Applications Engineer with ACES Air Distribution you will provide technical support for both the estimating and sales support for the commercial HVAC Air Distribution Business. This position requires a unique combination of communication skills, problem solving skills, and drive to accomplish specific objectives in a given time frame. This includes attention to detail to ensure accuracy, communication skills to ensure the necessary related information is gathered, and problem solving/time management skills to effectively meet deadlines. We are looking to add multiple Engineer resources – location opportunities in: Richmond, VA, Hampton, VA, and Roanoke, VA. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned. Responsible for the cost estimation of Air Distribution equipment and systems related to assigned bid opportunities by reviewing relevant plans and specifications. Prepares proposal and pricing break downs to deliver cost estimation of equipment and systems related to assigned bid opportunities. Responsible for take-off, optimization/validation of the equipment to include selection of size, configuration, voltage, options, etc. of the Air Distribution equipment by reviewing the plans and specification. Provides technical assistance and support to Account Manager(s) and related customers for system and product selection, design and pricing during the design and fulfillment stages. Communicates with subcontractors and suppliers by evaluating vendor submittals and completing submittal pre-release communication. Utilizes information on scope of work, drawings, plans and specifications to estimate all costs while ensuring competitive positioning, evaluating equipment savings/costs. Assembles bid files, including all development information, in customer relationship management (CRM) system to prepare estimate. Uses computing skills to facilitate use of estimating systems, selection software and department processes. Develops relationships with represented manufacturers and vendors to gain relevant information. Communicates effectively with contacts related to assigned bids to gather necessary information. Stays current with material costs to maintain budgeting of long-term projects. Develops preliminary and/or final submittals as required for timely production release and delivery of equipment. Assist with the ordering process and tracking of Air Distribution Products. Develops relationships with represented manufacturers and stays abreast of industry trends. Overall: Successfully handles a large and diverse number of projects and issues with tact, cooperation, and persistence. Meets deadlines effectively for estimate proposals, submittals, equipment release and other assigned tasks. Documents work by maintaining files for each job including, but not limited to, internal and external correspondence to mitigate project risk. Coordinates and communicates successfully, remotely and in person. Utilizes knowledge to facilitate project completion, such as: product knowledge on exhaust fans, louvers, dampers, GRD’s (grilles, registers & diffusers), and other commercial HVAC air distribution products. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS include the following: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or other related areas. Up to two (2) years of experience in the HVAC industry performing estimating or related roles preferred. An equivalent combination of education and work experience. Familiarity with or strong interest in HVAC Systems, air distribution products, and/or Temperature Controls. Individuals with the right attitude/demeanor to learn sales long term with a technical interest are encouraged to apply. Must have basic PC experience in Windows environment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Web-enabled applications and intermediate level experience with Excel. Exceptional customer service skills. Must possess excellent math aptitude, superior follow-up skills and ability to work under pressure on multiple projects with strict deadlines. Demonstrated strong time management skills and ability to effectively meet deadlines. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required; self-motivated approach with team player attitude.
