General Motors (GM) has a rich history in hydrogen fuel cell technology dating back nearly 60 years, transferring NASA Apollo space mission learning to the very first fuel cell powered automotive concept vehicle – the 1966 Electrovan. Today, GM’s Global Fuel Cell Business is creating clean energy solutions for a gamut of commercial vehicle segments as well as non-traditional, non-automotive land, sea, and air applications, including stationary power and hydrogen energy storage.

OVERVIEW

As a Senior Product Engineer, you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities. Responsibilities include utilizing engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs.Effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and rigorous program management. You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program deliverables with perfection.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Synthesize Fuel Cell system designs based on customer requirements

Develop system, component, and sub-component specifications for the various elements of fuel cell systems including functional, performance, safety, and compliance requirements

Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate product technical solutions to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable designs

Work cross-functionally to curate efficient technologies/solutions/components for innovative product design

Build Plant Models for various Fuel Cells programs and applications, and determine pressure drop budget, and subsystem performances

Investigate component design and utility affecting Fuel Cell performance, providing design and DRE direction, accelerating production

Perform Cathode, Anode, and Thermal circuit analysis working with customers, design, and DREs

Analyze 3D CFD flow/thermal dynamics and fluid properties for complex subsystem components are architectures, integrating geometry effects into GT-Suite, and MIL analysis

Analyze and improve Fuel Cell vehicle system-level simulations for Range, Durability, N&V, Drive Quality etc

Address Balance of Plant and Stack durability under various operational and application conditions using 1D-3D CFD/Thermal modeling, and working with customers, designers, and DRE’s

Utilize enhanced drive-cycle analysis, supplier data and models, and working with the validation team, determine analytical validation methodologies suitable for Balance of Plant and the Stack

Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for customers and development programs

Develop and update existing tools / scripts to enhance simulation capability

Interact with Global teams for discussion on simulation results and simulation/modeling capability development

Additional Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, mechanical, or other relevant engineering field required

2+ years of product development experience in fuel cells, engines, battery and/or high voltage electrical systems

Experience in System level simulations using tools like Matlab/Simulink, GT-Suite, AMESim, AVL Cruise, Saber

Strong fundamentals in Mechanics, Flow/Thermal, and CFD

Knowledge in Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Numerical Methods

High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

Highly proficient in oral and written communication skills

Team player attitude internally and externally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s or PhD in mechanical engineering, Physics or other relevant engineering field

5+ years of experience with CFD analysis

Proficient with STAR-CCM+ CFD software

Experience with CFD optimization tools

Experience with programming in Java, Python, or equivalent languages
